Meet Our Team
President - Steve Sorensen Ph.D. received his doctorate in Mechanical Engineering from Brigham Young University in 1989. He specialized in manufacturing technologies and robotics. From 1989-1991 he was an associate professor at BYU. He then co-founded Cimetrix Inc., a supplier of manufacturing software to OEMs of automated manufacturing equipment were he served as Chief Technical Officer. In this capacity he developed products and provided consulting services with companies such as Fuji Machine, Philips/Assembleon, Universal Instruments, Seiko Robotics, Yamaha, Siemens, GM, and Motorola. He left Cimetrix in 2005 when he purchased Newonics Inc.
Sales Manager - John Bigby has worked in the electronics manufacturing business since 2000. In addition to sales, he has also been a Materials Manager and a Purchasing Manager.
Production Manager - Pat Butterfield has been in the manufacturing industry for 17 years. In the 7 years prior to joining Newonics he managed high volume production of the Palm Pilot and PCMCIA modems for 3COM and then MSL. He has been the production manager at Newonics since 2002.
SMT Manager – Shane Lindula has 10 years experience working with Philips-Assembleon equipment. He has been factory trained in operations, maintenance and PPS off-line programming. Shane’s attention to detail is legendary and many of our customers routinely consult with Shane on their PCB layout even in the design phase.
Quality Manager – George Ream received a BS in Electrical Engineering in 1986 and the joined the Air Force, where he served for 12 years as an electronics warfare specialist obtaining the rank of Captain. He has been the Quality Manager at Newonics since 2005.
Engineering Manager – Kent Mabey founded KWM electronics in 1972, a business he ran until 2002. Kent has more than 35 years experience in product design and electronics manufacturing. Kent designed many of our customers products including the flag ship products of some very successful companies.
Support Systems Manager – Rey Wunderly heads our support services group, which includes Document Control, PCB Layout and CAD Layout. Rey has 35 years experience in PCB layout.
Materials Manager – Jamie Miller worked as the Order Fill Operations Manager for Honeywell from 1995 to 2002. Jamie has been the Materials Manager at Newonics since 2003. Jamie has an amazing memory and can recall the part number and location of most of the thousands of parts in our inventory.
Senior Buyer – Kevin Hansen has 30 years experience on both sides of the supply chain, both as a Product Manager, Sales Manager and Inside/Outside Sales Person for Avnet, Pioneer and Arrow electronics and as a buyer for contract manufacturing. Kevin knows everyone in the industry and if a part exists, Kevin can find it.
IT and Facilities Manager – Bob Jones is the newest member of our management team. Prior to joining Newonics, Bob spent 7 years as the IT, Documentation and SQA manager at Cimetrix Inc., a software product development company.
HR/Office Manager – Andrea Hamilton started at Newonics in 2006 after nearly 10 years of customer support, team supervisor, and as a training coordinator in the travel and retail distribution industries.
